Attractive crowns are generally white, free of stains and signs of other damage, such as chips and cracks.
Fortunately, at Hunt Valley Dental, we can restore the structure and appearance of your teeth with dental crowns made from various materials, including ceramic or porcelain. Our dentist, Dr. Thomas Rhodes, may recommend crowns as a restorative or cosmetic procedure.
With CEREC “one visit” dentistry, our team designs and fabricates the most natural-looking and strong crowns for our patients in northeastern Maryland.
Dental crowns have historically been “prepared” or planned by dentists. The dentist’s office reshapes the natural tooth and gathers information about the reshaped tooth. Then, that information is sent to an outside lab that makes the permanent crown. While the crown is being made, the prepared tooth is fitted with a temporary crown.
Once the permanent crown has been fabricated, the temporary crown can finally be removed. The crown is then secured to the tooth – only if everything fits right. If something is “off,” the crown must be redone. This crown process can require anywhere from two to four visits (potentially accounting for any “re-dos” to the temporary and permanent crowns).
With the CEREC system, Dr. Rhodes can do it all from our Hunt Valley, Maryland office. CEREC is a brand name that stands for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.” This system uses computer-aided design and manufacturing techniques.
Chris had deep staining from antibiotic treatment when he was a child. Now, Chris doesn’t look back.
Dr. Rhodes uses this special software and other technologies to scan, create a three-dimensional model, and design your crown. All of the information is transferred to our in-house milling machine. The machine then fabricates the permanent crown from a solid block of cosmetic and strong dental porcelain. Voila! The crown is now ready to be placed and secured to your prepared natural tooth structure.
The whole process can be completed in one visit, in 20 minutes! Additionally, any adjustments can be made quickly and do not require follow-up visits or for a delicate temporary to be worn during the process.
